TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - The Tupelo Police Department will be under the microscope next week as a team of law enforcement experts will be in town for an accreditation process.
It is a voluntary assessment that is scheduled to begin on November first and last about three days.
Police say it is a process that would help ensure the department meets high state standards.
Police Chief Tony Carleton says that the assessment calls for the department to meet 123 professional standards.
He says the process will not only help the department, but benefit the community as well.
Chief Carleton says citizens also have an opportunity to be a part of the assessment.
He says on Thursday, October 25, members of the community can call a phone number between 1-3 p.m. and make comments or add questions that will go to the assessment team.
The phone number is 662-840-0852.
