MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Mississippi State student has been charged with arson after a fire was reported in an elevator in a residence hall Wednesday morning.

School officials say the fire was reported in the elevator at Creswell Hall.

Starkville fire officials responded to the scene of what school officials called a "small fire."

The student was taken into custody by university police and charged with arson.

School officials say they will not release the student's name because the case remains under investigation.

They also would not comment on the status of his enrollment at the university.
