STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — A lawsuit challenging how the city of Starkville is paying for infrastructure improvements have been dismissed by the Mississippi Supreme Court.
William McGovern filed suit after the city approved an $8,000,000 plan that included a new municipal building and renovations to the current city hall.
The suit was filed after aldermen approved a lease-purchase plan to fund the construction projects.
McGovern claims the city failed to identify the lessee corporation, the property to be leased or the construction company.
He also says aldermen failed to notify the public of its intent to pass the bonds.
A chancery court judge threw out the lawsuit in December.
McGovern filed an appeal to the Mississippi Supreme Court, but city leaders told justices the appeal was filed after a legally required deadline.
On Monday, city officials were notified the Mississippi Supreme Court had dismissed the appeal.
