AMORY, Miss. (WTVA) -- An Amory woman has died after flames ripped through her home Sunday afternoon.

Coroner Alan Gurley said Martha Guyton, 74, was found by firefighters in the bedroom of her home, located at 508 Third Street North. Gurley cited the preliminary cause of death as smoke inhalation.

Members of the Amory Fire Department arrived at 4:15 p.m. Sunday and found the home fully engulfed in flames.

The cause remains under investigation.

One nearby neighbor told reporter Wayne Hereford that it sounded like an explosion went off before the firefighters arrived.
