AMORY, Miss. (WTVA) -- Amory Police are stepping up efforts to collect outstanding fines.
Scores of people who owe the city money have not paid in full or at all.
As of September, 2012 unpaid fines amounted close to $400,000.
The Amory Police Department has employed a retired law enforcement officer to work part time in the effort to collect outstanding fines.
The police chief says the officer spends 99 percent of his time serving warrants to get people to appear in court and make arrangements to pay fines.
Whether it is pay the fine in full or arrange a payment schedule, all those who owe the city money are urged to contact the Amory City Court Clerk at the Amory City Hall.
