COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) -- Air ambulance service is coming to the Golden Triangle.
On Wednesday, MedStat EMS announced plans to locate an medical helicopter base at the GTR Airport.
A company spokesman says the expansion will improve access to trauma care and critical illnesses to people in east central Mississippi.
MedStat EMS is headquartered in Winona and currently has a helicopter based in Montgomery County.
The company serves as the ambulance provider for 15 counties in central and north Mississippi.
Company officials say Columbus base will cover a 75-mile radius and provide support for its ambulance crews in Monroe County.
