UNION CO., Miss. (WTVA) -- A team effort from law enforcement agencies from federal, state and local jurisdictions combined efforts in Union County Thursday night.

Authorities say they arrested of 11 felons, 15 drunk drivers and issued of 208 traffic citations.

There were a total of 45 arrests made counting felonies, DUI’s, misdemeanor drug charges and suspended driver’s license.

"This combined effort of law enforcement resources helped us quickly and safely serve a number of felony warrants. Our efforts together will keep our county, city and highways safer," Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards said.
Participating agencies included the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, the US Marshall’s Service, Union County Sheriff’s Department and New Albany Police Department.
"This was a cooperative initiative among several law enforcement agencies and we are pleased with our effort to promote public safety,” MHP Troop F Captain Chad Moore said. “This was not a one-time occurrence. There will be a continued presence throughout the northeastern part of our state to encourage the motoring public to abide by the rules of the road.”

The six-hour enforcement effort began at 6:00 p.m. and officers conducted 28 safety checkpoints and maintained three felony warrant arrest teams.

Checkpoints were set up on city streets, county roads and state and federal highways.

“We know our cooperation with these agencies working in the city and county will help deter crime and lower our crime rates. This was a very successful effort and we will continue to use what resources we have to ensure the safety of our citizens.” New Albany Police Chief Chris Robertson said.
