TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Any accident involving a deer can be dangerous and sometimes deadly.
But these accidents do sometimes help businesses out.
According to one shop owner, deer season is up there with hail season when it comes to the peak time of the year for business.
"We'll get a lot more during deer season. It seems like the hunters being out in the woods seem to get the deer more riled up during hunting season. So, we definitely see more during hunting season than summer or any other time," said Anthony Knight, the shop manager at Tom's Automotive in Tupelo.
He says that deer collisions are not a rare or inexpensive occurrence here in Tupelo.
"Typically, you see five or six a month during hunting season. The typical costs are usually between $2,000 and $3,000 depending on how bad the accident is," said Knight.
But Knight adds that amount is a rough guess.
So from his perspective, what should you do if you are out one night and collide with a deer?
"If you hit a deer, you need to decide if it's drivable or not. If you can make it on home, I'd suggest you drive it on home instead of being out on the side of the road. Calling your insurance company - that would be the first thing to do," said Knight.
Knight adds if your car is not drivable, you need to call a tow truck and call your insurance company and get a claim started.
