NEW SITE, Miss. (WTVA) -- Surrounded by friends and so many others, the family of U.S. Marine Sgt. Jonathan Lambert celebrate his life.

"It takes dedicated people to protect us and he loved the Marines and that seems to be his forte in life," Lambert's mother Becky Lambert said.

Sgt. Lambert died from injuries he received in a vehicle accident while serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in June, 2003.

"It has been hard, but it's one day at a time and we stick together and we help each other out," Lambert's sister Misty Terry said.

"It certainly strikes personal to me as a fellow marine as well and it's important for the family in recognizing their loss and their sacrifice," Mississippi Department of Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert said.

"He will be recognized every time someone rides Highway 4 going to Bay Springs and going towards Booneville. My son will not ever be forgotten," Lambert added.

"A bunch of my friends and teachers say your dad is a real hero and you should be thankful and I said I am really thankful for him," Lambert's daughter Kinsey Lambert said.

Sgt. Lambert was known for his dedication to the Marines.
