TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Just call it a meeting of the mayoral minds.
Top brass from cities across the state are hoping to get on the same page.
Some have a lot on their plate. Some not quite as much and we're not talking about what's on the lunch table.
Eight mayors from across the state with a population of 30,000 have converged on Tupelo in search of solutions.
"I think it was a great result. I know every single one of the mayors at the end of the meeting said this was worth it," Tupelo Mayor Jack Reed, Jr. said.
Mayor Reed came up with the idea for this gathering.
Immediately, issues each mayor was facing were on the table.
"We talked about taxes. We talked about elections-how we can make elections more affordable for cities and counties, how we can work together better as cities and counties with infrastructure," Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree said.
"We're looking at the homes right now on the radar that we think we need to demolish in Tupelo that are really an example of blight. One of the other mayors said we've got 200 we're planning this year, so that helps me when I go back to the Tupelo City Council and say we're not alone in this problem. In fact, we're better off than some of the cities," Mayor Reed added.
"Man! Just the kind of stuff that comes out of it that we need to do in our state and our cities and what others do. It's just a good opportunity," Mississippi Municipal League Executive Director George Lewis said.
"It was a great opportunity for all of us to get together to talk about those things and actually maybe there are some solutions none of us thought about but one person may have solved it to help us," Mayor DuPree added.
All involved say this is one table they plan to fill again-sooner rather than later.
The lunch meeting followed a three-hour morning session held in the Tupelo City Hall.
All the mayors have made plans to meet again in Meridian.
