TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- President Obama's move to push for action against Syria -- but wait for Congressional approval -- is being met with considerable opinion from many lawmakers.
The President stresses the move will not involve troops on the ground.
U.S. Rep. Alan Nunnelee said via Twitter over the weekend that he's glad President Obama is asking for authorization.
U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker also gave his assessment of the situation.
"What we need to do is to encourage the moderate Arab states to step in, the Arab league to step in and take the leadership, rather than having the United States or NATO allies take in the leadership role," Wicker said.
Members of Congress return from the summer recess next Monday.
