HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WTVA/WDAM) - On Monday, the job status of Southern Miss head coach Ellis Johnson was subject to multiple reports and rumors. The school has not made an official statement one way or the other as of Monday afternoon.

Southern Miss President Aubrey Lucas told NBC affiliate WDAM early Monday that the administration is in the process of reviewing its football program and plans for the future.

"When we have something to report, we will report it," Lucas told WDAM.

Ellis Johnson met with members of the football team Monday afternoon in what WDAM sources describe as a "normal end-of-the-season" meeting shortly after meeting with interim Athletic Director Jeff Hammond.

WDAM reports that an assistant sports information director said of the closed-door players meeting, "there is nothing to talk about."

The Golden Eagles are coming off of an (0-12) season, the first under Johnson. It is the first losing season for Southern Miss since 1993 and the first time in school history that the team lost more than eight games in a single season.
