SHANNON, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Tupelo man and his daughter are dead following a Saturday afternoon traffic accident in Lee County.
A Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesperson says Brian Ezelle, 46, and his 9-year-old daughter Lauren were ejected in the accident around 4 p.m. just north of the Brewer Road exit on Highway 45.
Troopers say Heather Ezelle, 39, was driving north on the highway when another vehicle made a lane change and she attempted to avoid a collision.
Authorities say she over-corrected and the vehicle, a Nissan Xterra, overturned several times in the median.
Troopers say the five people in the vehicle, including a 15, 14, and 9-year-old were transported to the North Mississippi Medical Center by ambulance.
Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green pronounced Brian Ezelle dead at the hospital.
Lauren was airlifted to Lebonheur Children's Medical Center in Memphis in critical condition.
Green said Lauren died at around 10 p.m. Saturday of blunt force trauma from the wreck.
Troopers say none of the five people in the vehicle were wearing a seatbelt.
The accident remains under investigation.
