TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) — We now know the name of the teenager who died Thursday when he was struck by a train near Crosstown in Tupelo.

Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green has identified him as 16-year-old Ron Woods, a student at Tupelo High School.

The teenager's Facebook page is filled with people expressing shock and sadness over his death.

Aaliya Baker wrote, "Rest in paradise." Ashley Pearson Dabbs wrote she hated to hear what had happened and added, "You will be missed! This breaks my heart!"

Tupelo police said the accident that killed Woods happened between Blair Street and Jefferson Street on the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe track around 12:15 p.m.

The Tupelo Public School District released a statement saying counselors will be at the school Friday to help students and staff.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time," the statement said. "This young man will be missed by all who knew him."
