SALTILLO, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Saltillo police officer escaped injury after his patrol car was hit by a man running from authorities.

Police Chief Steve Brooks says the pursuit began in Prentiss County and ended in Saltillo around six o'clock Tuesday morning.

He says Nathan Harold Williams, 44, is currently in the Lee County jail on traffic charges, but will be charged Wednesday with aggravated assault on a police officer.

Prentiss County authorities say Williams apparently stole the truck in their county and was later spotted by a Booneville police officer.

The chase proceded south on Highway 145 through Baldwyn and into Guntown.

Guntown Police Chief Michael Hall says one of his officers saw the truck and joined the pursuit.
He says Williams ran several stop signs during the pursuit.

Hall say Williams will face felony charges in his town as well.

He says Williams is a convicted felon and did have a firearm in his possession during the chase.

Brooks says an initial appearance will take place at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon in Saltillo Municipal Court on the charges in their city.
