TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- A local judge ruled a Tupelo family is allowed to take a dog back home today after it bit two people on New Year's Eve.

Brenda Tramontine of Tupelo, said she was bitten by the lab on South Church Street during her morning route to the post office. A responding police officer was also bitten when loading the dog to take to the Tupelo Lee Humane Society.

Officials with the humane society said the dog was well behaved while in their custody.

Since the dog bit two people, the owner will have to comply with dangerous dog laws and pay a fine totaling $290.
