VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) -- The state Department of Transportation is taking more land for a proposed Interstate 20 frontage road extension in Vicksburg.
The Warren County Board of Supervisors has voted to hand over a 30-foot easement following an eminent domain lawsuit, The Vicksburg Post reports.
It's the third piece of land the state has taken for the project on the south side of I-20. Construction on a road over rail tracks near the outlet stores could begin in 2013, depending on right-of-way talks and funding, MDOT officials have said.
Work on the extension will be rolled into a larger effort to widen I-20 through Vicksburg, estimated to cost from $221 million to $230 million. In August, officials said the widening could happen in eight phases between 2014 and 2040.
