JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- Several north Mississippi counties are now under a burn ban.
The bans are requested by county supervisors and approved by the Mississippi Forestry Commission.
Those include Lee, Pontotoc, Union, Chickasaw, Itawamba, Yalobusha, Lafayette, Monroe, Winston, Calhoun, Tippah, Marshall, Benton and Panola.
Grenada County supervisors will discuss whether to issue one at their meeting Thursday.
Anyone caught in violation of the burn ban can be fined from $100 to $500.
The bans do not apply to municipalities in the counties.
Lee County will allow fireworks during the July 4th holiday, but remind residents to please use caution when shooting them.

Among the counties who have not issued burn bans are Lowndes, Noxubee, Webster, Montgomery, Oktibbeha, and Alcorn.
Tishomingo County supervisors are still weighing their decision.
Prentiss County tabled the decision until their next meeting in the middle of the month.
Natchez Trace Parkway officials say their policy is to follow what the county governments decide.
An Alabama Forestry Commission officials say no counties in their state are under a burn ban, but a current ban on campfires is in effect for the four national forest in the state.
The U. S. Forest Service says fireworks are prohibited in national forest year-round.
A violation carries a maximum of six months in prison and a $5,000 fine.
