CORINTH, Miss. (WTVA) - There's a relatively new program in Corinth that's designed to help when families don't know where else to turn during a critical illness or during times of need.
For people who are struggling financially and medically, there's a program called Hospice Services Foundation which through a commitee is working to render assistance.
The program is being funded through fundraisers and donations.
"We've helped several families in the area, and actually, our foundation nationwide has helped families to the tune of about $250,000 this year alone," added Brandi Phillips, community relations manager.
Members of the committee are not only tasked with funding the foundation but also to recruit volunteers.
There is a dire need to bring additional volunteers on board to help with this project because each volunteer helping can make a positive difference.
"We would like to have at least one volunteer per every patient and more on top of that if we could," added Melissa Cox, clinical services director. "Hospice in itself was built on volunteers years ago when it first started, and so it's a very big part of it still."
"We've got a situation right now with a family that doesn't even have a place to bathe," added Gentry Parker, volunteer coordinator. "We've got a team that is going to be going out to build a bathroom for them just so they can take care of personal needs."
The foundation is designed to help people facing numerous challenges.
"It's not just for somebody who is dying. It's about life and living it to the fullest that your able until the end comes," added Parker.
Hospice Services Foundation was started by the company Hospice Advantage.
The foundation will exist as long as the company stays in business.
