TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Lee County woman and her son are behind bars tonight, each under $500,000 bonds.for charges related to the sale and distribution of marijuana.
The Lee County Sheriff's Department says Antonia P. Hawkins, 44, and Terry W. Richey, 26, both of Tupelo.
The suspects had about twelve ounces of marijuana between the two of them at separate locations when they were arrested.
"This investigation started with the North Mississippi Narcotics Unit and the Tupelo Police Department, [as well as] the Lee County Sheriff's Department [working] in conjunction," Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson said. "We were able to make two undercover buys on one of the individuals which led us to a search warrant in Richey's apartment in the Auburn community where we seized some marijuana and some guns. That led to another search warrant over on Mt. Vernon Road in Tupelo where we, North Mississippi Narcotics and Tupelo Police Department executed that search warrant. There was also some $2,200 in cash, two shotguns, digital scales, two vehicles and a John Deere tractor."
Johnson says his department received numerous complaints from the Auburn Community about drug sales.
He says the reason for their high bonds are because each suspect is considered to be a flight risk.
