TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - A billboard in Tupelo off of Hwy 45, with a picture of President George W. Bush, is getting lots of attention. We went out Sunday and let people weigh in on the matter. Some said it needs to be taken down, but others said it's okay if it stays.
Advertisements on billboards seem to show up just about every time you look up, but one billboard in the All America City advertises what some said is something of a different nature. The billboard has a picture of President Bush along with the words, "miss me yet?" Just like most subjects people have an opinion about this too. Some people said they don't like it.
"I think it's arrogant because the way the economy is right now. I don't miss him myself and I'm sure a lot more people don't either," Jason McCollum, a resident said.
"I don't like George Bush it shouldn't be up there; nobody misses him," Haley Stevens a resident said.
"Take, take him on down," Lee Freguson, a resident said.
"I saw it and I believe it needs to be taken down," Billy Davis, a resident said.
"I don't like it I don't think that he did us any good at all and I think it needs to be taken down," Pamela Castle, a resident said.
But another resident said she is ready to see the billboard and she said she thinks it should stay up
"I haven't seen the billboard but I would like for it to stay.Yes, I miss President Bush and I think he did a good job until the Democrats took over Congress. I am very concerned for our country with the present leaders," Shirley Lowry said.
Others said it's not necessarily whether they like or dislike the billboard it's about the right to have an opinion.
"It's freedom of speech and it doesn't bother me," Delisa Price, a resident said.
"Because we do have freedom of speech I guess it is fine. I guess it's okay for the billboard to be posted," Marquise McAlister.
"I guess it's freedom of speech," Michelle Reed.
One person said although she doesn't like it, she says she thinks the billboard should stay up.
"Well I feel it's only right to put them up on the billboards because if they're going to get out here and do the crime they should be facing, everybody should be able to see who it is on the billboards," Angie McDonald, a resident said.
Another person said it doesn't effect him either way.
"I've seen it in passing and I really just took a second look at it and it didn't matter."
A simple Google search tells us Tupelo isn't the only place with the billboard. The first one popped Wyoming, but what we couldn't find on Google is solid information about who's producing the it around the nation.
One person said he thinks he knows the sources behind the billboards.
"The story I've heard it was some business men who put it up as a joke," Shean French, a resident said.
French said he thinks it should stay.
"It can go both ways. People who like Bush they can like it and people like me who find in hilarious, I say keep it," French said.
