GUNTOWN, Miss. (WTVA) -- If you like two lanes and back roads, then you may have encountered Pat Schumacher riding horseback through North Mississippi this week.
The South Dakota man is originally from Alabama.
He rode his horse Dillon from South Dakota to Tuscaloosa and now embarks on a journey to Nebraska.
Schumacher says he averages 35 miles on a good day.
When he and his pug Buford are not riding horseback, they walk alongside Dillon for a while.
"It beats getting in trouble and it's cheaper than riding in a car,"Schumacher said.
Schumacher says he has been out of a job for a few years and has not been able to find work.
He accepts the kindness of strangers who sometimes give him a place to stay or a stall for Dillon.
