JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Highway Patrol says it's been a busy holiday weekend for troopers.
Five people have died on the state's highways during the period, and it's not even over yet.
Two of those were in MHP's Batesville district, one was in the Jackson district and and one was each reported in the Hattiesburg and Biloxi districts.
Troopers say out of the five fatalities, two people were wearing seat belts.
MHP has investigated nearly 100 accidents during the holiday.
Out of those, 37 people were injured.
One interesting statistic: only two accidents are classified as alcohol related.
The holiday weekend started Friday evening at six.
It ends at midnight Tuesday.
