TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - If you like to dig into history, Saturday's event at the Oren Dunn City Museum was just for you.

"Geology Day" afforded people the chance to learn about rocks, minerals and the environment under the ground.

Members of the North Mississippi Gems and Minerals Society set up booths to showcase rocks and minerals and give people a chance to learn about fossils.

The event also gives Boy Scouts a chance to earn geology merit badges.

A popular attraction was beading as one expert points out there are several purposes when it comes to beading small decorative objects.

"There's so many things you can learn from working with beads and stringing," adds Nikki Kenney, volunteer. "[You] have something that you can be proud of, that you can take home, that you can wear. So it's lots of fun for everyone."

The displays also gave kids and their parents a chance to play fun games that challenge their intellect.
