AMORY, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Sunday afternoon fire that claimed the life of an Amory woman appears to be accidental.
Fire Chief Jimmy Bost says that is the preliminary finding of an investigation into the fire on Third Street North.
Martha Guyton, 74, was found by firefighters in the bedroom of her home after they were called to scene around 4:15 p.m.
Coroner Alan Gurley says the preliminary cause of death was smoke inhalation.
Bost tells WTVA.com investigators found multiple extension cords and multiport adaptors plugged into a single outlet in the area where the fire started.
He says that leads investigators to believe the fire was accidental.
He says the state fire marshals office is handling the investigation and will provide a final report at a later date.
