TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Tupelo family is spending a few extra days in the Carribean after the cruise ship they were on developed a "technical issue."

The Carnival Dream is currently docked in St. Marteen because of a failure in an emergency generator on the ship.

Company officials say the problem did not affect the operations of the ship, but are keeping the ship in port while they work to correct the program.

There were a couple of temporary issues involving the elevators and one public toilet on the ship, but those have since been corrected.

Kirby and Wendy Hutson, their three children, and Cindy Sanders, all of Tupelo, were among the 4,300 passengers and crew onboard the ship.

Family members tell WTVA they have communicated with them by text messages.

They say the six will be flown off the island on Sunday and are expected home Monday.
