FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ala. (WTVA) -- Authorities say a Sunday afternoon crash on Highway 24 has claimed the life of a child.

Trooper Curtis Summerville with the Alabama Highway Patrol says the crash occurred about seven miles east of Russellville at approximately 1:35 p.m.

The driver, 16-year-old Dylan Lucas of Russellville, collided with another vehicle. During the incident, 9-year-old Abigail N. Williams of Hamilton, was ejected from Lucas' vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Williams was not wearing a seat belt.

Paramedics transported Lucas and another passenger to Russellville Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the other vehicle, 50-year-old Denise Nelson of Brownsboro, was also transported along with three passengers in her vehicle.

Summerville said Nelson's vehicle was burned beyond recognition and could not be identified.

The accident remains under investigation by the Alabama Highway Patrol.
