TUPELO, Miss. -- Cell phones are welcome.
That's the word from Tupelo Public School District officials.
They plan to allow children of all ages to bring their phones to school.
Phones are not to be seen or heard inside the building.
"I can't imagine life without a cell phone now so, we want that for their safety-especially if they are involved in activities after school. We can't allow that to be a distraction in the classroom," Assistant Superintendent Diana Ezell said.
Other policy changes include change in the dress code.
Skirts must me knee-length.
Showing too much skin will be considered a violation.
Change also comes to the number of excusable absences.
