IUKA, Miss. (WTVA) — U.S. Coast Guard investigators are trying to determine how a barge ran aground on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway Wednesday morning.
A media affairs officer says the incident happened around 5 a.m. at mile marker 445 near the Yellow Creek Port.
The barge was one of five being pushed by the motor vessel Crimson White when the lead barge ran aground.
Officials say there were no injuries, but the barge does have a hole in it.
The U. S. Coast Guard Command Center in Mobile, Alabama reports four of the barges were carrying rocks.
The fifth barge was empty.
The Crimson White is owned by Cooper Marine in Mobile.
The grounding is not affecting traffic on the waterway.
