BELDEN, Miss. (WTVA) - A northeast Mississippi conference focuses on help that's available for people with Alzheimer's disease and also for those who care for them.
Itawamba Community College and a number of other groups sponsored the annual Northeast Mississippi Alzheimer's Conference.
250 people were at ICC'S Belden campus Thursday to hear from experts in caring for those with dementia, and specifically, Alzheimer's disease.
Health care providers, care givers and even people with dementia and their families took part.
As Americans live longer there is a growing demand for services related to this illness.
ICC Gerontology Program Director Dr. Laura Pannell said, "Whether it's Alzheimer's disease or some related form of dementia, we want to identify all the resources out there to help people. It's an issue with dementia sometimes that family members or people with dementia don't really want to talk about."
Part of the day also included a look at not only the latest medicines available for dementia patients but also the best behavioral modifications in dealing with that condition.
