WINONA, Miss. (WTVA) -- Air Methods, a nationwide provider of air ambulance service, will soon being offering service from Winona.
A company spokesperson tells WTVA.com Air Methods was approached by MedStat's program director to see if they were interested in continuing air medical service in the community.
Air Methods, who has an operational contract with North Mississippi Health Services in Tupelo, says they will being operations in early February.
The Denver-based company is not purchasing MedStatEMS or any assets of the emergency service provider.
Air Methods say it will operate as a community partner, but as a completely independent operation.
Company officials say they are currently in the process of hiring staff and believe they will retain most of the air medical pilots, clinicians and the mechanic currently employed with MedStat.
MedStat offered air ambulance service within a 100 mile radius of Winona-Montgomery County Airport.
