Most of the fog from this morning has lifted, but a few isolated patches remain. Besides the fog, cloudy skies will continue to prevail today. A front is draped and has currently stalled across the southeast and right across North Mississippi. Therefore there is a bit of a temperatures contrast, farther northwest across the state, behind the front, temperatures are in the upper 40s. South of the boundary temperatures are in the mid to upper 50s and low 60s. The front is expected to slowly shift southeast later today, but still remain across the area. As moisture continues to increase, the front will remain the main focal point for showers throughout the day. Temperatures will not fluctuate that much today due to cloudy skies and moisture. Most will only warm a couple degrees and stay in the 50s and low 60s.
The bulk of the showers and storms still remains to the west of the Mississippi River, where severe weather, along with torrential rain continues to occur in portions of eastern Texas and Louisiana. The upper low currently in Texas, will shift northeast and initiate a surface low to develop, which will push a cold front through the area Tuesday into Wednesday. More scattered showers and storms are likely, with heavy rain and some strong storms possible. The greatest instability will be across the southern part of the state, but a strong storm or two cannot be ruled out in North Mississippi, with strong wind gusts being the main concern. As the low pressure system departs to the north and east, a little wrap around moisture may bring a few isolated showers across the area Wednesday, but for the most part, the majority of the rain will have shifted east. Skies will clear from west to east behind the front Wednesday as a much colder and drier air mass starts to filter into the area. This will bring a return to Winter like weather for the end of the week and into the weekend. As a matter of fact, morning lows Friday will range in the low to mid 20s, with highs only reaching into the low to mid 40s. Keep those sweaters and coats handy!
