It was a cool, cloudy and breezy start to the day, with some spotty showers and misty conditions, though conditions are continuing to improve across the area. The low pressure system that brought the scattered showers and heavy rain yesterday and overnight continues to pull away and track off to the northeast. Skies are clearing from west to east early this afternoon and will continue to do so throughout the remainder of the day. High temperatures will be dependent on the amount of clearing, but think most will warm into the low, to possibly mid 50s. The wind has relaxed some too since this morning and will continue to do so this afternoon.
Looking ahead, after several days of rain, we look to dry out for the rest of 2011 and will actually see a nice warm up! Wednesday will be the first day of full sunshine that we have seen since last Monday! Highs will be slightly cooler, in the low 50s, but Thursday we kick off a warming trend, with highs in the upper 50s. By Friday and New Year's Eve, high temperatures will be near ten degrees above average for late December, in the 60s! The dry period looks to end sometime on Sunday, as our next storm system will be making it's way across the Lower Mississippi River Valley. Latest computer models still differ in the timing and strength of the next system, but no matter what, there looks to be a chance for at least some showers New Year's Day. As we get closer to that time, we will have a much better idea on specifics, but for now, enjoy the sunshine!
