As I have mentioned in the last few weeks, it looks like Summer is into gear. At times it slips out of gear and we have that in the forecast too. However, for the next few days hot days with high temperatures in the lower to middle 90s. The heat index right around 100 during the peak heating of the afternoon. Yes, this is Summer in gear across the area.
However, as mentioned we can and most likely will slip out of gear at times over the next few weeks. The factors being that we will have a weak cold front move into the area later in the week and into the weekend. This frontal passage could drop our high temperatures into the upper 80s for highs and could also drop off a bit of our humidity. This drop in temperature and humidity will most likely give us a more bearable heat index across North and Central Mississippi and Western Alabama. The best of chances for these bearable days will be Friday and Saturday. By later in the weekend and into early next week we bounce back into the higher heat and humidity.
Speaking of next week . . . . . we will see Tropical Storm Chantal approach Florida this weekend. The big question in the forecast is the track of Chantal at that time. Most computer models take Chantal northward along the Eastern Florida coast. However, a computer model does bring her into the Northeastern Gulf of Mexico (and along coastal panhandle sections of Florida) by early next week. This could affect us, if this ends up being the story. This too could have an affect on the area with a drop in temperature and a chance for some rain. Albeit, Chantal would have to keep on that mentioned track. Odds of that are pretty slim.
