It's been over two weeks since any rainfall has been recorded officially at the reporting station at Tupelo Regional and more than 3 weeks since any meaningful rainfall has occured.
Need Rain?? You have one real chance, and even it is no guarentee.
A Sub-Tropical storm system that battered parts of the Florida and Georgia Atlantic coasts is finally beginning to move. As it gets caught up in a mid-level wave and lifts away, it will leave some high dewpoints behind. That's a nice way to say, there'll be some fuel left for storms, if a strong-enough disturbance triggers them.
IF.....
Here's the problem: a weak jetstream, like we've experienced so far this fall, can sometimes leave us high and dry. You can have everything in place, but if the disturbance is too weak, it will fail trigger meaningful storms.
So, what is the answer?
If you live near the Tennessee state-line, your chances for thunderstorms Wednesday PM / Thursday AM are much better. And if it doesn't come then, it could be another 5-6 days before anything significant shows up in the forecast. That's not to say that the Golden Triangle will miss out, but any rain chances will be brief.
That means, it might be about time for that "Last Mow of the Season" a little earlier this year.
