Most of our WTVA viewing area has seen the heat index values well above 100 degrees this afternoon. Hence, a heat advisory is in effect for a lot of North Mississippi. We will see a cold front move into the area later tonight and into Friday. This front will drop our temperatures by about 7 to 11 degrees. So things are looking better by the weekend and into early next week. The front will also allow some drier air to move back into the area. This will bring the heat index to the same level as the air temperature. This in turn will make things feel much better outdoors.
Some strong to severe storms will be possible on our Friday morning (wee hours to shortly after sunrise). Also some strong to severe storms will most likely fire up again during the afternoon and evening hours. The main severe weather culprits will be strong and gusty winds, along with large hail.
