Beautiful sunny skies are prevailing today, but it is significantly colder than it has been over the past few days. Colder and drier air has filtered in behind the cold front that moved through yesterday and therefore our air mass is struggling to warm up today. High temperatures will reach into the low to mid 40s at best, which is about seven degrees below average for this time of year. Good news is, the cold temperatures will not last for long! High pressure will slowly start shifting east this afternoon and a warming trend will start Thursday afternoon. Tonight will be another chilly one, thanks to clear skies and a calm wind, temperatures will cool into the mid to upper 20s. Southerly winds will help warm temperatures Thursday afternoon, back to above average for this time of year, near 60 degrees.
Unsettled seems to be the key word into the weekend and next week, as several disturbances will bring chances for rain. Mainly sunny skies will persist for Thursday, though a few clouds will start to stream in during the afternoon and evening associated with a weak cold front that will be dropping southeast across the area. Not expecting any precipitation with this frontal passage, just an increase in cloud cover. The front will make it's way through North Mississippi Thursday night, with clearing behind it, before it stalls across north and central portions of Mississippi. Cloudy skies will persist along and south of the Highway 82 corridor due to the position of the front. Throughout Friday clouds will increase ahead of our next storms system to the west. There will be a chance for spotty showers mainly Friday evening, increasing Friday night and Saturday. A few thunderstorms will be possible as well. Highs will remain in the upper 50s and low 60s through the weekend, with lows in the 50s Saturday morning and 40s Sunday morning.
Model discrepancies continue for the long range, as of right now, Sunday looks to be dry and partly sunny. Rain chances will again be possible Sunday night into Monday. Tuesday for now, looks dry. High temperatures will remain above average and in the low to mid 60s Monday and Tuesday, with morning lows in the 50s. Showers and thunderstorms are likely Wednesday into Thursday associated with a very dynamic storm system, which will be something to keep an eye on as we head towards the middle of next week.
