After a week of hype, and a weak line of showers/storms, NOW it feels like Fall.

A Canadian airmass has settled into the eastern half of the United States, and it will keep low temperatures chilly through the end of this next weekend.

It also could mean "Goodbye to upper 80s" for quite a while.

La Nina, a relative cooling of the waters in the eastern central Pacific Ocean, has kept the jetstream relatively weak, and thus has allowed the unseasonably warm/clear weather we've had the last few weeks to linger beyond typical norms.  That same weakness in the jetstream will supress any significant changes to our relative weather pattern.

Translation: Once something changes, expect that change to stick around for a while.

That's why we'll stay in the 30s/40s for low temperatures through the middle of next week, keeping them below normal for this time of the year.  It's possible that by the middle of next week, highs could return to the upper 70s.  Briefly. Another strong arctic blast is scheduled to arrive in commanding fashion by next Wednesday, dropping temperatures in most spots to near or below the freezing point.  Some spots in the central United States could see some wintery precipitation.

Yet another sign that summer-like weather is gone for quite a while.
