point of pride in new albany is the girls volleyball team. the lady bulldogs are once again off to a rip-roaring start. andy: the new albany volleyball team is off to a 9-1 start. what's the secret to their success? reid gann: 'we've played really good defensively. we're making opposing teams work really hard for every point, and we're serving really well. feel like we're putting a lot of pressure on our opponents with our serve.' greta blakemore: 'just playing our hardest and never giving up on points even if it doesn't look to well for us. we've had sets this year where we've kind of gotten down and been able to come back and win the game.' this is new albany's fifth season playing volleyball. reid gann has been the head coach the last four seasons. the bulldogs turned the corner in 2017 by winning class 2 region 1, and making the playoffs for the first time in program history. however, a second round loss to lewisburg has new albany even hungrier in 2018. reid gann: 'we wanna taste that success again. we're preparing hard in practice, and we just wanna get back to that level.' maggie moore: 'i think last year getting the closest we've ever been and then losing, it was difficult but i think this year its motivated, at least me, more to work harder towards the goal.' the bulldogs look to avenge their only loss of the season tuesday night in caledonia. the polls are now open. head over to wtva.com to cast your vote for friday night fever's game of the week. you're three choices for week 2 are corinth at tupelo. itawamba ahs at new albany, and louisville at west point. the voting closes at 4 pm wednesday. jim holder will announce the winner wednesday at 6. the associated press has winner wednesday at 6. the associated press has released it's college football pre-season top 25 poll. alabama will open the season at number one. the crimson tide join oklahoma as the only programs to be ranked number 1 in the preseason ap top 25 pollfor three straight seasons. barry switzer's sooners accomplished the feat between 1985 and 1987. alabama received 42 out of 61 first place votes. here's a look at the top 10. there's alabama at number 1. crimson tide followed by clemson, georgia, wisconsin, and ohio state. washington checks in at number 6. oklahoma, miami, auburn, and penn state round out the top 10. mississippi state begins the season at number 18. highest preseason ranking for the bulldogs since 1981. lsu is 25th. south carolina, florida, texas a m, and kentucky all received votes. some soccer news. ole miss' cece kizer was named sec offensive player of the week. the senior midfielder scored four goals and had one assist in the rebels wins over louisiana and western kentucky. last night, kizer notcheda hat- trick in ole miss' 4-0 win over the hilltoppers. this marks the second time that kizer has earned offensive player of the week honors. michigan head coach jim harbaugh announced today that former ole miss quarterback shea patterson will be the wolverines week one starter at notre
