another day, there's yet another scam. this one is out of monroe county, where the sheriff says he even gotten a scammer calling him on his phone. wtva's rebecca butcher joins us now. warning...if you get a call on your landline or cell... (nats) ...claiming you owe money to the government, it's likely a hoax. just last night we reported of the lee county residents recieveing calls from people posing as deputies, wanting money for unpaid fines. cantrell: "the sheriff's department is not calling you about old fines." now, monroe county sheriff cecil cantrell tells us people in his county are getting bogus phone calls just like it. cantrell: "or that you've missed court and that you have a warrant for your arrest." authorities say they are asking people to purchase green dot cards at walmart..to send. masha laney: "i think it's horrible, i think people will try to get a quick buck anyway they can." (standup) and today i spoke with a woman here in amory, she says she got a suspicious call herself..back in may. (end) shelia young: "they wanted you know, money." shelia young says thatcall was from an out-of-state number.
