thank you for waking up with us on this morning.... the time is now.... it may look calm now, but we are tracking severe weather... thanks for joining us, i'm shante sumpter and i'mdaranesha herron.let's head over to meteorologistalan matthew for a closer look at the forecast. as this saturday morning gets underway, we continue to anticipate the potential for strong and severe thunderstorms in our area as a front gradually approaches from the north and northwest. a severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for portions of our area until 10 am this morning. the primary concerns with storms remain mostly the same including: the potential for scattered to isolated damaging wind in the 50 to perhaps as high as 70 mph or slightly greater range, large hail greater than 1-inch in diameter and perhaps an isolated tornado. also lightning and heavy rainfall that could lead to an isolated instance of localized flash flooding should not be overlooked as a potential hazard with storms this morning. and the mega millions jackpot continues to grow... there was no winner in last night's lottery drawing. the jackpot - which was sitting at 433-million dollars - has now jumped to nearly a half-billion dollars. if won - it will be the fifth largest jackpot in the game's 16 year history. the next drawing will take place on tuesday. sunday service will go on as planned for a benton county church destroyed in a fire... the pastor says lightning is responsible for the fire that destroyed the building ... it happened thursday night at pleasant hill baptist church.... ables assistant fire cheif says when they got to the scene they could see the blaze from a mile away,... and while inside trying to fight the blaze along side 4 other fire departments,they were told to evacuate the building because the roof was about to cave in... the state fire marshal's office is helping investigate the official cause for the fire... tomorrow's service will be heldin the fellowship hall of the church. this morning a motel manager in calhoun city is out on bond after being accused of selling drugs at the hotel. now, he's denying all allegations. m-b-ndirector john dowdy says christopher cook had been sellingmethfrom the r and l motel on north main street in calhoun city. dowdy says cook was in possession of three and a half grams ofmethat the time of his arrest. however, according to cookhe isbeing targeted. 'they were targeting me for two years because they want me to participate in a larger investigation .this motel has been a center for a long time. way before i bought it." cook wasplaced on a five thousand dollars bond. an eight-month-old baby girl is recovering this morning,,, afteritawamba county investigatorssay she was shaken by her mother's boyfriend... this man...dennis spencer junior now sits at the itawamba county jail... he's charged with aggravated child abuse... investigator jason dickinson saysspencer's case will likely be presented to a grand jury in september. sheriff chris dickinson says it happened at this trailer park off highway 3-71... he says spencer shook the child because she was fussy while he was trying to watch t-v... the little girl, whose name has not been released, is being treated at lebonheur children's hospital in memphis.... we are working to get an update on the baby, at last check she was in critical condition.. no charges will be filed following a thursday afternoon shooting in kilmichael. police say a man left hiscar at a friends house... when the father of that man went by the house to get something out of the car... the friend and the father apparently got into an argument... that's when police say the property owner shot the father in the leg... the property owner was taken into custody but was later released... the time is now: decades-old church in arkansas... multiple agencies battled the massive blaze thursday... take a look.... it happened at the "west minster presbyterian church" in pulaski county... first responders say the church was "fully engulfed" in flames when they arrived... several fireman overheated during the battle, as temperatures reached well above 100 degrees... no other homes on the street were affected, and crews were able to contain the fire within a few hours. the cause of the fire is still under investigation... a 10-thousand dollar reward is being offered after a pregnant dolphin is found shot to death on the mississippi coast. officials say the bottlenose dolphin was found on april 30 on the beach in waveland... an autopsy report received by marine officials this week is leading noaa, to search for answers in the dolphin's death... the report showed that the mammal had been killed by a gunshot,,, causing both the mama and her baby to die. a south mississippi man faces charges after threatening a former deputy and his family. colby tolbert is accused of sending multiple threats through social media to a deputy's wife. sheriff mike ezell say he threatened bodily harm to the deputy and his wife. the sheriff says tolbert and the deputy had a previous encounter where the deputy arrested him. he says the threats had been sent over the last two weeks. a crystal springs veterinarian is indicted on child sex crimes... doctormichael holifield has been indicted on multiple sex crime charges... the indictment reveals the victims involved were two girls, ages 15 and 16... theincidents took place at two different homes in crystal springs... if convicted on all counts, holifield faces up to 225 years in prison. the alabama department of corrections needs your help in the search for two escaped inmates... the department says this man, 43-year-old john mitchell left from an assigned job location in talladega county thursday morning... he is described as six foot, 190 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes... the d-o-c is also looking for this man, 40-year-old tobby blackstock... he left an assigned job location in tuscumbia, alabama on the thirteenth... he is described as 5 foot 10, 160 pounds, with blond hair and brown eyes... if you see either of these men, contact your local law enforcement or the alabama department of corrections... we're following a heartbreaking story out of missouri... divers found the last four missing passengers on a duck boat that sank thursday... that brings the death toll to 17... the boatover turned around 7 thursday night as a line of thunder storms moved through the area, causing the massive waves. cell-phone video shows two of the boats -packed with tourists-fighting waves.. and winds gusting over 60-miles-an-hour.. those who died ranged in age from one to 70... seven were hospitalized... two are in critical condition... investigators hope those who survived can provide key information, as they tortoise for 20 minutes,,, until it finally turned off into a wooded area.... a georgia police officer may have broken the world record for the most push ups in an hour. major bryan lavoie did three-thousand-20push ups. smashing the record of almost 27-hundred. the police officer did the pushups to support a local non-profit that he says does so much for everyone in southwest georgia. he this year. reports say 77-percent plan to start shopping at least three weeks before school begins. the national retail federation finds that total spending for school and college combined is projected to reach nearly 83-billion dollars this year. spending on clothing tops the list forfamilies with children from elementary through high school. college shoppers will fork out the most money on electronics. today, walmart is kicking off the back-to-school shopping season with free health screenings and services to kids and their families. the event is being held at more than 47-hundred walmart stores across the country. pharmacists will be available to talk to parents one-on-one about health concerns and immunizations in preparation for the upcoming school year. free vision
