benton county... a fire destroys a church near ashland... and the pastor says the fire was caused by lightning from last night's storms... wtva's xavier harris is at the church now... xavier, what can you tell us? im here at pleasant hill baptist church on ashland road where im told by the ables store volunteer fire department asst. fire cheif mark taylor. they received a call around 1015 thursday night. when they arrived on the scene the church was not completely engulfed in flames. im told by taylor fireman were inside trying to put out the fire when they were radio'd to get out of the building because the roof was about to cave in. taylor tells me they battles with the blaze for nearly seven hours side by side with ashland, hickory flat, snow lake, and graves town fire department although it hasnt been confirmed by the fire marshall but taylor tells me they believe the fire was cause by lightning. the church is a total loss but they did manage to save the fellowship hall. in just a few moments i will reach out to the pastor of the church with his reaction so stay with us. live in benton county xavier harris wtva nine news.
