up for the code red alert system free of charge. wayne hereford joins us live from tupelo with more. leaders gathered at city hall to make the announcement. it means that whenever there is an issue in the city that folks need to know about such as that boil water notice last year, the system will let everyone that is signed up know about it. "you sign up for this service and you get either a text message or a phone call with that accurate real-time information from city officials to let our citizens know what's happening." that in essence, is code red an alert system used across the country and now in tupelo.l it means that in situations like last year's boil water, notice, the system would get the world out in a more timely and accuarte manner. "whether its the weather situation,a power outage, bad accidents that would shut down a roadway some type of spill." that's great news for arthur garrett, his wife , and grandchildren. its got to be a good thing because, a lot of people don't use the same communications that others do. the more things that are available, the more the liklihood of people being forwarned will be much greater."
