allowing part of the city to take alcohol out of bars and restaurants in a special cup. wtvas xavier harris has wtvas xavier harris has community reaction to this ordinance. im here on main street where these two bars nautical whimsey and vanellis bistro are just two of the areas where customers are free to walk with their go cup. now ive spoken with some residents and some feel as if this would be an economical increase for the city while others feel it serves no purpose. there's only two bars in tupelo and they are pretty spread apart if you take your cup out of a bar say the thirsty devil you take your cup out of the thirsty devil you're going to be getting intoa vehicle and not walking next door to another bar,so i feel that encourages drinking and driving which i also am very against. the go cup ordiance came about when mayor jason shelton and some council members visited gulfport, hattiesburg and ocean springs, three cities close to the area with no issues with the law. we've hear that a lot of other places at least in mississippi they have this thing with no extra crime and i feel like people will be responsible and if the police have a little bit of extra vigilance it will work outreally nice. with this go cup ordiance residents feel this will bring more people to the city of tupelo and the downtown area. personally, i don't drink but i do think that it would help tourism in tupleo because i know in place around us like memphis they do allow the to go glasses. the go cup ordinance is set to begin its 6 month trial period in may. reporting live in tupelo xavier harris wtvs 9 news. a innovative piece
