whirlwind 24 hours it's been for kermit davis junior. on sunday night, he coached middle tennessee state in the second round of the nit. after the blue raiders lost to louisville, the team went back to murfreesboro. and today, davis flew from middle tennessee to oxford, where he was introduced as the new men's head basketball coach at ole miss. you know davis' history by now. born in leakesville, mississippi,he spent some time in tupelo as a youngster. he played college basketball at mississippi state, where his father is a former head coach. the younger davis spent the last sixteen seasons at middle tennessee state, where he led the blue raiders to three ncaa tournament appearances. he'll bring two of his blue raider assistants with him to oxford, ronnie hamilton and win case, and will conduct a national search for the third assistant. as for davis, he'll make two- point-five million dollars annually, along with incentives. it's a four-year deal, longest under state law. davis says he was comfortable at mtsu, but says ole miss was just the right fit. "as the process goes on, when i met with chancellor vitter and ross, it was just one of those things that i knew it was the right place for me. like i said up there, i wanted to align myself with leadership that i trust and then obviously a leadership that is committed. they're all in with ole miss basketball. the infrastructure is there. obviously the things that i feel about coming home to mississippi, being in the southeastern conference, it was all just a perfect fit for me." kermit davis'
