valley authority says it hit another peak power demand this morning.... w-t-v-a's emily leonard is joins us with today's numbers... it happened around 9-a-m... the spike was the eleventh- highest winter peak in tva history with generating sites working hard to meet the demand ofcustomers trying to stay warm during single-digit temperatures... tva has called on consumers to lower thermostats between 65-68 degrees and bundle up in an effort to keep service from being interrupted... tva says every degree below 68 saves 3% on energy use and lowers your bill... back to you... winter weather has left its mark on parts of the deep south. in alabama, the sun is out but people are being urged to stay off icy roads. parts of south-central and south alabama got two to three inches of snow. and with temperatures well below freezing, some roads are still considered unsafe. classes were canceled at auburn university and students got a chance to enjoy the winter wonderland. a state of emergency went into effect ahead of the snowstorm. and the icy roads stalleddrivers in parts of georgia. this drone video shows vehicles, many of them semis, frozen on interstate 85 in west jackson while one side of the highway was cleared. transportation officials say despite the snarl this morning... all of the interstates were cleared and passable before noon. crews were out in force throughout the day... georgia state offices will be closed again tomorrow across half the state. treacherous and icy roads cause many in the houston area to stay indoors. this was the scene this morning over interstate-290... dangerous elements from tuesday's night storm caused nearly 50 highways close... dozens of tractor-trailers were stranded after a freeway heading into downtown was closed off... a truck treating snowy roads in virginia.. ran into trouble of its own... the truck was carrying a load of sand.. when it flipped over in the median of interstate 85... so instead of helping keep the roads from getting slick.. the sand is now all over the grass...
