HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WTVA/USM Athletics) - Southern Miss senior women’s golfer Brandi Rodriguez was named Conference USA Women’s Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
She becomes the first Lady Eagle golfer to be named Golfer of the Week three times in their career.
Rodriguez parred the second hole of a playoff to win the UAB Fall Beach Bash. Rodriguez, who came into the round three shots back of the lead, fired a tournament-low 71 in the final round to force a playoff with Austin Peay’s Tala Mumford. After both parred the first hole, Mumford bogeyed the second and Rodriguez finished out the comeback with a par. It is Rodriguez’ second career victory, having also won the 2013 Lady Eagle Invitational.
She joins Jennifer Keefe and Erin Doyle as the only Lady Eagles with multiple victories in their career. The 71 also gives her five rounds of par or better on the year and 12 for her career, which are both school records. The victory also gave Rodriguez her sixth career top five finish, tying the school record.
