HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WTVA/USM Athletics) – Southern Miss head men’s basketball coach Donnie Tyndall has announced the signings of two recruits to letters-of-intent and grant-in-aids for the 2013-14 academic year.

Dondre Alexander (Iowa City, Iowa) and Ude Ifeanyichukwu (Abuja, Nigeria) will join the Golden Eagle program.

Alexander, a 6-3 guard, is in his senior year at Iowa City West High School. He is three-star prospect by Rivals.com. Last year, he was named First Team All-State by the Iowa City Press-Citizen. Alexander averaged 16.0 points and 4.6 rebounds as a junior. He led Iowa City West to a perfect 26-0 record and the 4A State Championship, earning Class 4A All-Tournament honors. On the year, he shot 55.8-percent from the floor and 78.2-percent from the free throw line. His performance last year also earned him Third Team All-State honors by ESPNHS.com.

“Dondre is an athletic combo guard,” said Tyndall. “He can play all three perimeter positions. He was an all-state football player, so he has a mentality and a toughness that we like and value. He can shoot it from the perimeter and also drive it and make plays off the dribble. He is a tough, competitive player who has a great work ethic.”

Ifeanyichukwu, a 6-9 forward, averaged 7.4 points and 6.7 rebounds at Laramie (Wyo.) County Community College. He also led Region IX with 3.7 blocks and shot 59.3-percent from the floor. So far this year, he is averaging 10.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 5.3 blocks while connecting on 70.6-percent of his shots.

“In Ude, we have what our team is desperately missing in some size and great athleticism on the front line,” added Tyndall. “He’s a guy who can be an impactful player, especially on the defensive end. He’s a great shot blocker and a good rebounder, and he’ll certainly give us some much needed size. He is a tough, competitive player who is always striving to get better.”
