HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WTVA/USM Athletics) – Southern Miss held its final practice before Saturday’s Spring Game under overcast skies Thursday afternoon at Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
Head coach Todd Monken made the final practice a light one, as both coaches and players are looking towards Saturday.
“Once you get to this point in the spring, you put the players in shorts,” said Monken. “So it was normal that it wasn’t the same kind of detail. But the energy was still good. More than anything, the guys are looking forward to Saturday.”
Monken believes that the Spring Game will be a great conclusion to spring practice despite not playing at The Rock.
“We feel good about it,” said Monken. “We’re not real deep. But we’re going to give it a go. It’ll be different because we’re not in our stadium. But it’s going to be fun for our guys.”
The 2013 Black and Gold Game will be held Saturday, April 20th at 1 p.m. at nearby Petal High School. The spring game's location was moved due to the recent tornado that struck Hattiesburg and damaged the field turf at Carlisle-Faulkner Field inside M.M. Roberts Stadium.
