HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WTVA/USM Athletics) - The Southern Miss football team returned to practice Monday for its final two-a-day workouts of fall camp.
The Golden Eagles went through a two and a half hour practice in the morning and then returned to Roberts Stadium for an hour and a half night practice. It was the sixth two-a-day session for the program during camp.
Southern Miss returned to work after going through its second intra-squad scrimmage Saturday, followed by a day off Sunday.
For second-year coach Todd Monken, there were plenty of signs that the Golden Eagles should be much improved heading into the 2014 campaign.
“There were less mistakes, less turnovers and less penalties,” said Monken of the scrimmage on Saturday. “That is a sign we are getting better – doing all the little things right.”
Southern Miss returns to practice Tuesday for its final day of fall camp with an 8 a.m. session. The squad will then take Wednesday off as the team will go through their first day of classes for the fall semester.
The Golden Eagles open the season Saturday, Aug. 30, at Mississippi State. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
